I realised whilst writing my last post on The Best Places to Elope in New Zealand, I really struggled to narrow down the list to just 5, so I’m back with Part 2!
New Zealand really is a diverse country, the landscape can change from stunning mountain backdrops, to beautiful sandy beaches within the blink of an eye. Whether you love hiking up mountains, relaxing in picturesque vineyards, chasing waterfalls, or feeling the sand beneath your feet, there’s something for everyone in New Zealand.
Here’s my updated, Part 2, list of amazing places to get hitched in New Zealand. If you missed my first post, you can find it here: Top 5 Places to Elope
Best Places to Elope in New Zealand – Part 2!
1. Great Barrier Island
This location is wonderfully remote, so if you love rugged wilderness and breathtaking beaches this is the place for you! It’s remote location (a 35 min light plane ride or a 4.5 hour ferry trip from Auckland) means there’s no big crowds. Famously the Island has been designated as an International Dark Sky Sanctuary, making it one of only 10 special places in the World. So you can elope and get married during the day on one of the many stunning beaches, or hike inland through the native bush, and then in the evening relax under the amazing stars as a newly married couple.
2. Milford Sound
Deep within Fiordland National Park lies Milford Sound. With a combination of mountains, deep blue waters, and dramatic forest-clad cliffs, it is a breath taking natural beauty. You can fly or drive from Queenstown, but we think if budget and time allows, then driving is great as there’s so many amazing spots on the way, such as the Mirror Lake and the stunning valleys. Why not book a helicopter flight for your elopement, you could get married high in the mountains overlooking the National Park, and get the see the area from the sky whilst you are at it.
3. West Coast Auckland
Nothing beats a sunset on the West Coast of Auckland. The black volcanic sand, and the rugged coast line, make places like Bethells, Karekare, Muriwai, and Piha really breathtaking. Only a 45 drive from central Auckland, but the remote enough to feel like you are a million miles from the busy city. A popular area with surfers, the nearby towns have a relaxed vibe, and the extensive Waitakere Bush with the famous Hillary Trail, makes you want to stay a few days to explore the area after your elopement.
4. Mt Cook
Another South Island gem, and if jaw dropping mountains are your thing, then you will love Mt Cook. Choose between a lake side wedding at the stunning Lake Tekapo, or head in to the mountain with a heli ride to the top.
5. Bay Of Islands
If you love sailing, diving, and exploring sandy beaches, then the Bay of Islands is the perfect paradise for you. Charter a boat to get married on one of the small Islands, or have a intimate wedding on one of the many farm venues overlooking the water.
