COVID19 AND THE RISE OF ELOPEMENTS

Before COVID19 hit the popularity of elopements was on the rise. More and more couples were opting to have an intimate, meaningful ceremony over a large, expensive traditional day.  There’s no doubt that COVID19 has had a massive impact on the wedding industry, with many couples forced to postpone or cancel their wedding plans. As these couples start to look at new dates later in the year, many of them are choosing to change their original plan and have an elopement instead, here’s why…

KEEPING GUEST NUMBERS LOW

Currently no large gatherings are allowed in New Zealand, when our alert level changes, weddings of less than 100 people may start to be allowed, however with social distancing still relevant, couples are choosing to scale back on the guest list, and opt for a much more intimate ceremony with just each other or immediate family.

FINANCES

With the economy taking a massive hit, and job losses looming, couples are choosing to switch their old plans for a large expensive wedding, to a more cost effective elopement. Another perk of an elopement is being able to combine the honeymoon and wedding in to one! You have already travelled to an epic location, book some luxury accomodation and enjoy some time together after the wedding.

MORE INTIMATE VOWS

COVID19 has made us all step back and look at our relationships with more appreciation. For couples this might mean a re-write of your vows to something much more meaningful. Reading your vows in an intimate setting is incredibly emotional. Speaking just to each other, without the nerves of speaking in front of 100+ people.
